REBECCA ANWEILER
visual artist
About
Rebecca Anweiler completed her MFA at Concordia University in 2000. She has been teaching Drawing, Painting and Foundation Studies in the Fine Art (Visual Art) Program at Queen’s University for the past 15 years.
Working figuratively and dealing with issues of representation, Anweiler's paintings critically investigate the cultural meanings underlying gender, sexuality and the natural world as constructed through norms produced by education and scientific systems. While her background in biology and education informs these various lines of inquiry, pursuit of the mystical drives her conceptual explorations with both paint and the newer works in video and installation, including involving community engagement.
Anweiler has exhibited extensively in Canada in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Her paintings are in many private collections, as well as the public collections of the City of Toronto, the University of Lethbridge, Alberta and the Agnes Etherington Art Centre in Kingston, Ontario.
